Energy performance certificates 'to cost £130'

Energy performance certificates

Energy performance certificates (EPCs) will cost an average of £130 when Home information packs (Hips) come into force next week, it has been suggested.

Research from TheHipExchange.com calculated the cost of the EPC, a key component of the packs that will rate a building's energy efficiency from A to G, by examining feedback from providers around the country.

All buildings in the UK that are either sold or rented will require an EPC by 2009, but Hips will come into force initially just for properties with four or more bedrooms on August 1st.

"There will be some providers who are initially quoting less for the [EPC] but from the feedback we have been getting we expect the average across the country to be around this level. However, as soon as smaller properties are included later in the year, the average cost is expected to drop," advised HipExchange founder Henry Pryor.

Earlier this month the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) advised that the number of qualified domestic energy assessors (DEAs) was just one away from the government's target of 2,000 required for Hips to be rolled out to properties with three or more bedrooms.
