Enquiry finds

A year-long inquiry into house pricing by the government's watchdog has found little evidence of wrongdoing, but concludes that proposed eco homes could affect competition in the housing market.

The study by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) examined claims of malpractice among housebuilders, but found no evidence of monopolies or anti-competitive practice, reports Building.

Heather Clayton, senior director of infrastructure at the OFT, commented: "We did get a lot of representations about the Code for Sustainable Homes and the difficulties smaller builders might have with it.

"The government needs to think of how it can provide support for smaller builders."

Neil Jefferson, chief executive of Zero Carbon Hub, said the construction of eco homes could be a barrier to competition.
The OFT is an independent professional organisations which aims to ensure markets work in the best interests of consumers.
