Environment Agency 'to sell land for sustainable homes'

The Environment Agency has announced that it is to sell land to a developer in a move that will help the government's plans to build more sustainable housing.
The four-and-a-half acre plot of land will be sold to Linden Homes, which will aim to build a number of homes in accordance with the government's new code on the site in Surrey.
Under the Code for Sustainable Homes, three stars represents a 'currently achievable' target, while six stars amounts to a zero-carbon property, with homes in the new development aiming to achieve the maximum rating and at the very least four stars, according to 24dash.com.
"We want this development to bring real benefits to the local community, including improved access to the River Thames. We will listen to the communities concerns and work closely with Linden Homes to address them," commented Environment Agency area manager Peter Quarmby, according to the news site.
The government is aiming to make all new homes zero-carbon by 2016.
