Britons aren''t too bothered about the environmentally-friendly credentials of their homes, according to one industry expert.

People do not shop around or attempt to design their own eco-friendly homes, according to housing design company Persimmon, but stronger building regulations may help push people towards making greener living choices.

David Bryant, group development director at Persimmon, said: "I think generally the house buyer is looking at the types of accommodation they want.

"I don''t think many will be shopping around and saying: I''m only going to buy a house if it has got a wind turbine or solar panels."

He said that Ruth Kelly''s building regulations announced this week will go someway towards meeting energy efficiency targets and towards the reduction of carbon emissions from the unnecessary provision of more and more heat and power.

This week the government launched their new building regulations set to take hold mid-2007 in a document called Building a Greener Future: Towards Zero Carbon Development.
