Extension potential attractive to new buyers

Nearly half of all buyers say that the potential to extend a property is a key consideration in purchasing a new home, according to Yorkshire Bank.
Forty-four per cent of respondents to the lender's study said that the opportunity to add a conservatory or convert the loft would prove to be decisive selling points, with almost half of all potential buyers saying that the desire to have more space was their main consideration.
The study also revealed that 38 per cent of buyers preferred to view a home that was furnished so that they could get a good idea of available space.
"Instead of moving house every time you need more space, a significant number of people are looking at houses they can grow in to and extend. For those who want to realise the potential a large garden has to offer, selling part of it can be a really viable option," said Yorkshire Bank head of retail Gary Lumby.
House prices fell by 0.8 per cent last month, according to last week's Nationwide house price index.
