Firm reuses materials in building project

A building firm has used rubble from demolished buildings to construct a brand new car park and on-site roads, it has been claimed.
Existing farm buildings and a swimming pool were demolished by Wates Construction.
Building.co.uk reports that the firm undertook the work as part of a project to rebuild Rochester Temporary Custodial facility - a young offender prison that will hold 300 people.
The rubble was crushed and reused on-site.
Among the main environmental benefits of the initiative the elimination of unnecessary landfill and potential damage to existing roads.
Pollution from a 35-tonne lorry which would have been required to transport materials offsite was also eliminated.
Wates Construction concentrates its operations on education, commercial buildings and public sector frameworks. Projects are carried out through centres of excellence.
The firm also works with private sector clients.
Previous projects include the construction of schools, university buildings, colleges and city academies.
