FMB's green building campaign praised

The Federation of Master Builders' (FMB) Building a Greener Britain campaign has been backed by David Cameron, leader of the Conservative party.

According to the FMB, Mr Cameron voiced his support for the scheme in a statement, which highlighted the role of the construction industry in meeting the carbon targets that the country has.

He added that making sure homes are energy efficient is the part that members of the public can play and that the FMB's scheme supports these ideas.

"Mr Cameron is right to say that we have a shared responsibility for the planet and that, as well as the government, the individual can make a difference in helping to protect the planet," said Brian Berry, external affairs director at the FMB.

He added that the federation's research into greener housing - to be undertaken by the Low Carbon Futures team from Oxford University's Environmental Change Institute - will make "practical recommendations" to homeowners.

Last week, the FMB called for a cut in VAT from 17.5 per cent to five per cent in order to create greener homes, as this would be more of an incentive to the industry.
