Footballer shocked at house prices

House prices in London are so high they have even shocked a highly-paid Premiership footballer, it has been reported.

Jonathan Woodgate has expressed his horror at the price of homes in the capital as he searches for a new place to live following his transfer from his home town club Middlesbrough to Tottenham Hotspur.

He said: "House prices are a joke, they are. It's unbelievable. When you are looking about and you see some of the houses, you think 'What?'"

The player, who reportedly earns £60,000 a week, added that it was possible to buy ten penthouses in the north for the cost of one London property.

People not on Premiership footballer's wages who wish to get on the housing ladder in the London area may decide to save money by adopting the self build option.

Woodgate has played six times for England in a career that has also seen him play for Newcastle United and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
