Get insured to revamp your home

The Easter weekend typically marks the beginning of the DIY season but you should consider your home insurance premiums before embarking on a revamp, according to one insurance provider.

Cornhill Direct, a home insurance provider, has found that the average British family adds fittings and furnishings to their home at a cost of £812 per year but 17 per cent of Brits have also had home improvement mishaps so it is important to keep your family protected.

Four per cent of these accidents result in claims on home insurance, which is important because it covers the likes of damage to electronic equipment in the home such as televisions and hi-fis.

Martin Scott, from the firm, said: "Householders who have elected to include accidental damage cover under their home insurance policy have the added reassurance that they are covered if a DIY accident causes damage in the home."

Some ten per cent of Brits say they have had two home accidents in the last year with each accident costing an average of £500.
