Glasgow brownfield site regeneration proposed

A regeneration plan for a derelict former factory site has been devised by Glasgow North Regeneration Agency (GNRA) according to the Evening Times.

The £15 million project would create numerous construction jobs for members of Possilpark's community as well as providing several essential services including supermarkets and a healthcare centre by 2010.

Stonyhurst Street Post Office, which is located on the brownfield site at present will either be maintained or relocated nearby, the GNRA has pledged to Possilpark locals.

Councillor George Ryan, the council's executive member for development and regeneration, commented: "This project could play a key role in the regeneration of Possilpark. The development could bring much-needed economic activity and public realm improvement."

New builds of local housing have helped to regenerate the Possilpark area since the 1980s.

In 2003 the majority of the housing stock was reassigned to the Glasgow Housing Association so they could ameliorate the services provided.
