Government explains housing body role

The Department for Communities and Local Government has outlined details of how the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) will work to deliver the three million extra homes the government has pledged to build by 2020.
Headed by Sir Bob Kerslake, the body will oversee the work of existing bodies such as English partnerships and the Housing Corporation as they work in conjunction with local authorities on schemes which will combine new house building with regeneration and infrastructure planning.
This will include special responsibility for flagship schemes such as the Thames Gateway and the ten new proposed eco-towns.
Housing minister Yvette Cooper said the HCA "will be crucial in delivering the new homes and community infrastructure we have pledged and we desperately need - bringing together land, money and skills to build more homes and regenerate communities".
Ms Cooper will also be giving details of government housing policies at a forum held later this month in London, Cicero Forums has announced.
