Government in transport cash plan for new builds

Ministers have shortlisted 36 housing developments for a possible share of a £200 million pot to help them integrate new homes with the creation of an enhanced transport infrastructure.

The list was announced by Housing minister Caroline Flint and transport minister Rosie Winterton, reports Property Week.

Ms Flint said the sites picked "have shown that they can help unlock potential in proposed new developments, as well as provide the transport infrastructure to support growing communities and improve access to town centres and jobs".

It has been suggested that the presence of good transport links nearby can boost the value of homes.

Last month the editor of property magazine BuyAssociation Paul Collins said that this could be seen in areas of Manchester if the congestion charge scheme goes ahead because of the enhancements that would be made to the public transport network, something he stated has been seen in London.

Those seeking to self build their home may choose to boost its value by finding a plot to build on that is near good transport links.
