Government 'spin' still angering NAEA

Government

The government is continuing to pretend that the roll out of Home information packs (Hips) has gone smoothly despite an absence of evidence, the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) has said.

The NAEA has said that independent economic research commissioned by the government has failed to take into account the fact that there has not yet been a chance for Hips to have an effect, good or bad, on the market.

"It was accepted that Hips must have had some effect [on transactions or prices], although it is really too early to be certain. This begs the question of how a decision to proceed can therefore be made?" the NAEA queried.

"As we stated after the last piece of spin, how can the term 'smooth roll out' be used when the minister herself has had to accept that the time taken for local searches is very patchy and that certain water companies are taking weeks to produce water searches," Mr Lilly questioned.

Hips were first introduced to the property market for homes with four or more bedrooms on August 1st, but only extended to one and two-bed homes last week.
