Green boilers important for energy efficiency

Those looking to renovate a home should consider installing a green boiler as one of the measures that can improve energy efficiency, the National Landlord's Association has said.

Elizabeth Brogan, senior policy officer for the body, suggested this was one of the measures that could be taken, alongside actions such as the installation of double glazing and the installation of loft and cavity wall insulation.

She said: "Replacing boilers with more energy efficient condensing combination boilers is a very good option and that will have a major impact on the energy efficiency of the property."

Although the comments of Ms Brogan were aimed at landlords who are keen to make their property portfolios greener and to make the most of the new Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance, which will be introduced in October, the same measures may be used by those looking to make their own homes more eco-friendly.

A poll by the Sponge Sustainability Network last year showed that 52 per cent of people were prepared to pay more for homes meeting high environmental standards, suggesting those renovating their dwellings this way will be able to command higher asking prices if and when they sell them.
