Green bungalows may provide self build template

Those who are planning to self build a bungalow may have been provided with the ideal blueprint on how to make such a dwelling as green as possible.

Housing and development agency LHA-ASRA has been given planning permission by North-east Derbyshire council to build 32 bungalows for the over 55s on council land in North Wingfield, the Green Building Press reports.

The homes will meet Code for Sustainable Homes level four standards for eco-friendliness, whereas most such homes built for rent only get to level three, the portal adds.

Green features of the bungalows include biomass heating, water saving devices and storage space for recyclable materials.

Those looking to self build their home may also have a financial reason to build a bungalow.

Earlier this week house price figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government showed that this was the best performing category of homes in the UK between May and June this year, seeing a rise of 0.8 per cent.
