Green features set to become 'more important than ever'

A property's green features are set to take centre stage in the future, according to one expert.

Melanie Russell, head of communications at Anglian Home Improvements, says that energy efficient homes will become "very appealing" and "more and more important" as environmental issues move to the top of the world's agenda.

"Not only are you going to be helping your planet - which has obviously got to be the most important thing - you are helping your purse," Ms Russell suggests.

A self build project can enable the future homeowner to build green initiatives into their development plans, which will make it more cost-effective and more appealing to potential buyers should they elect to sell the property and its land, she adds.

The majority of homeowners are willing to pay more for green homes, according to a recent survey by the Energy Saving Trust.
