Green home improvements ''surge in popularity''

There has been a massive upsurge in interest in green home improvements according to the Ecos Trust, which campaigns for sustainable property development.
A far easier and less bureaucratic system for putting the improvements in place is credited with the upsurge as Ruth Kelly, the communities secretary, announced recently that planning permission is no longer needed for things like wind turbines and solar panels.
Micro generation technology is now allowed without any formal planning procedures as long as neighbouring properties remain unaffected and there is no impact on the nearby environment.
A spokesperson from the Ecos Trust said: "We are seeing a massive upsurge in insulation improvements in homes and also a massive growth in renewable energy such as David Cameron''s rooftop windmill.
"There are many people who come to the Ecos Trust who are thinking of having renewable energy systems installed in their home."
Having a carbon neutral home could also raise the value of the property because energy efficient homes cost less to run and make their owners great savings on energy bills.
