Green homes "hold their value more"

Eco-friendly homes are more cost-effective and are likely to retain their value more than conventional properties, according to GreenMoves.

Julian Brooks, managing director of the company, believes that green living spaces are a more financially viable option in the long run as they are cheaper to operate.

An April report by the Communities and Local Government committee found the average existing home in the UK emits 1.6 tonnes of carbon every single year.

As well as being good for the environment, people should consider building a green home to save money as part of the bigger picture, Mr Brooks said.

"Green homes are a good investment without a doubt and will pay dividends over time as they are likely to hold their value more," he suggested.

In August, the Energy Savings Trust reported that more than half of all homeowners would be prepared to pay more for an eco-friendly property.

The trust found that homeowners would be willing to pay an average of £3,350 more for a green home.
