Green homes in line for rebate

Homes in Edinburgh that are made more environmentally friendly may be in line to benefit from council tax rebates.
The city council is to ask the Scottish government for permission to reward those who have made renovations in their house to make them greener, or moved into an eco-friendly home, reports the Scotsman.
Such a scheme is already in operation in the Essex town of Brentwood.
Ewan Aitken, leader of the Labour Party's group on the council, told the paper: "This is about giving people another incentive to do something about climate change, where they know their choices are reducing emissions but also bringing them a personal benefit."
Many will choose home renovation as a way of living a greener lifetyle.
Such changes may soon include transparent solar panels which double up as windows, reports Greenbang UK.
Australian researchers from Canberra-based Drysol and the University of Queensland Institute of Sustainable Resources have pioneered the device and believe it could be available on the market in the next few years.
