Green renovation consultation announced

A consultation considering efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the current housing stock has started.

Over the next two weeks, the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is seeking opinions on green renovations in four areas, including technology and innovation, markets and service offerings, behaviour change and awareness, as well as planning policy, New Builder reports.

The UKGBC is collaborating with the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes, the Sustainable Development Commission and the Technology Strategy Board to collate the information and present a workshop on the subject on September 12th.

Ultimately, the group is hoping to address issues such as the information about green renovations on existing housing stock that is available to landlords, tenants and homeowners, as well as possible financial incentives for people to make such environmental and cost-effective changes.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, homeowners could save a £120 a year on fuel bills by improving their cavity wall insulation as around a third of heat is lost through un-insulated walls.
