Greenbelt building plan criticised

Plans to construct new homes on greenbeltland in Bournemouth have been criticised after a government panel rejected a local plan for the construction of new homes.
The town's council had proposed to build 13,600 new properties by 2026 provided the greenbelt remained untouched, the Dorset Echo reports.
However, the panel has ruled that 14,600 new homes should be built on land in the town plus another 1,500 on greenbeltland on the northern edge of Bournemouth.
Local MP Tobias Ellwood said Bournemouth was being "unfairly targeted by civil servants based in Exeter who have no appreciation of the impact over-development is having on the character of our town".
Earlier this month, planning permission was lodged with Norfolk County Council for a development of 323 new homes on greenbeltland at Wymondham.
The Greater Norwich Development Partnership, which includes the city of Norwich and surrounding towns including Wymondham, has acknowledged that 33,000 new homes are required in the area by 2021, the Wymondham and Attleborough Mercury reports.
