Greenbelt homes plan to be appealed

An appeal will decide if plans to build new homes on greenbelt land can go ahead, it has been advised.
Environmental concerns have led to other applications in the Worplesdon, Guildford, area being rejected in previous months, according to the Surrey Advertiser, but developers believe that they have now fulfilled the necessary criteria for approval.
The applicant John Gunner intends to demolish the existing buildings in Aldershot Road originally used for commercial purposes in order to build new homes.
"This application provides a real opportunity of making good use of a troublesome site that can deliver real and significant environmental improvements to those who live nearby," advised a report on the matter from Robert Shaw Planning.
The National Housing and Planning Advice Unit this week advised that as many as 223,000 new houses would have to be built every year in order to keep up with demand fuelled by population growth and the rise of single resident households.
