Greenbelt ''should be used for property development''

The UK''s vast supply of greenbelt land should be opened for property development, according to one property expert.
Pierre Williams is the spokesman for Inside Track which provides education for would-by property investors and he said that government targets for the use of deserted brownfield land for property developments have already been exceeded.
He added that now areas of greenbelt land should become unprotected and used for similar purposes so that development is not stifled.
Mr Williams said: "There are still areas that are in need of housing that don''t have that brownfield land available.
"And this is why it would be a good idea to re-evaluate whether or not any greenbelt land in these areas is genuinely worth keeping."
He said that it should be remembered that greenbelt policy was first drawn up in the 1950s and it needs to be decided whether it is still relevant or whether or not it could be "used to relieve pressure on more attractive countryside".
