''Growing demand'' for green properties

Published: 02/04/2007

There is a growing demand for environmentally-friendly and high quality properties, according to a small Dutchingham-based firm.

Willow Builders, which creates small commercial premises, say that everything from timber frames to ground-source heat pumps are helping to made homes more environmentally-friendly and are all proving popular with the public.

For example, one home in Cringleford featured extra insulation and thicker glazing in order to save the occupants money on their energy bills and to lower carbon emissions.

Ground-source heat pumps can run off a small elastic motor which is less polluting than other forms of heating, such as oil or gas.

Gary Hayes, from Willow Builders, told the Eastern Daily Press: "We can see growing demand for this sort of building and we are building up a good deal of expertise in this area."

In other going green news, the Conservatives'' leader David Cameron was red-faced this weekend as he was forced to remove the wind turbine from his home as he had put it up in the wrong place.

Planning advisers say you should put your turbine close to the chimney stack.
