Gwynedd people 'cannot afford housing'

People living in the Gwynedd area of Wales are being hit by rising house prices meaning it is more difficult for them to pay for the general cost of living, a fresh report has stated.
The council there suggested that rural sections of Gwynedd could well be some of the most deprived in the country, reports the BBC.
Prices of properties in these rural areas are generally larger than they are in urban locations, the council added, something that is impacting on those who want to get on the housing ladder.
"Over half of Gwynedd households have gross incomes of between £7,500 and £10,000 and spend more than ten per cent of their income on fuel costs," it remarked.
On average the value of a home was eight times larger than the amount of money people were bringing home in 2005, the council highlighted.
A government commissioned report this week stated that rural areas will be populated only with wealthy people unless affordability there improves.
Thos worried about the price of housing in the area may wish to consider a self build project.
