Hips are 'essential like MOTs'

The argument for Home Information Packs (Hips) continues today with pro-Hips campaigners comparing the packs to MOT tests.

David Collett, the chairman of Hip provider Bespoke Hips Company, says that the packs provide greater transparency in the purchase of a property and their value will eventually shine through.

"You wouldn't buy a car without an MOT so why would you buy a house without an MOT?" He said.

"The evidence of title means that you know who you're buying from and often a lot of these costs are falling to the buyer so as long as there's joined up thinking between the searching at the beginning and the conveyancing at the end, it should perhaps provide better value for money for purchasers."

And also important for pro-Hips campaigners is that the price of energy is going to increase over the nest few yeas so energy efficiency will become a very important issue for home owners.
