Hips Code 'will end false rumours'

Published: 27/07/2007

Hips Code

A code first launched by the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) in 2006 shows that all suggestions regarding possible loopholes in the provision of Home information packs (Hips) are inaccurate, the industry body has claimed.

Furthermore, the code is subscribed to by 90 per cent of Hip providers, AHIPP has revealed, with homeowners being asked to ensure that their purchase their pack from a reputable provider.

Hips will be introduced next Wednesday (August 1st) for homes with four bedrooms or more, having been delayed from the original date of June 1st.

"We have witnessed a number of ambiguous claims over recent months from industry spokespeople who have remained intent on denying consumers the benefits of Hips. Rumours suggesting that homeowners may be encouraged to delay ordering their pack to avoid having a Hip, have now been quashed by the code," Mr Ockenden commented.

"Responsible providers will not allow the processing of ambiguous or purposefully delayed Hips and will play a pivotal role in ensuring the widespread use and understanding of the packs for the benefit of all involved," he added.
