HIPs create new jobs for mums and retirees

People are flocking to become Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) after hearing that the Energy Performance Certificate is to be a compulsory part of the forthcoming Home Information Packs (HIPs).
Andy Featherstone, who runs a website which answers questions about becoming a home inspector, said that due to the flexible nature of the job many mums and retirees are keen to train up as a DEA.
He said: "There is a new qualification that has recently come out which is the Diploma in Energy Inspection.
"This is a much quicker qualification to gain somebody can become qualified as a DEA in three to four months, whereas for a home inspector it would take a year."
HIPs are compulsory from June 1st and are designed to combat the breakdowns in one out of every four property transactions which is caused by new information coming to light after a formal offer has been made.
