Hips ''fudged'' by govt

Hips

The government has fudged Home Information Packs (Hips) according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) which is calling for a postponement to their introduction.

With under 100 days to go now until Hips'' planned introduction on June 1st, many property industry figures and the CML are calling for a postponement until Hips are properly trialled.

Bernard Clarke, spokeperson for the CML, said: "What we have had over a period of time is a long list of concerns about the vigour of the plans and how they have been changed.

"Now the government is changing the plans again with four months to go to implementation and we are not confident that the plans are vigorous enough."

HIPs have gradually developed so that now they veer more towards the energy efficiency priorities and this may have some significant effects on the housing industry because people will be able to charge higher prices for their homes due to their green credentials.
