Hips lies

The introduction of Home Information Packs (Hips) on June 1st will not adversely affect the property market, according to one housing expert.

Paul Broadhead, the deputy director general of the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp), says that rumours that there is a deficit of fully-trained domestic energy assessors ready to take on inspecting work are unfounded and simply untrue.

He added: "The current training courses for domestic energy assessors are bulging at the seams and a second tranche of trained energy assessors are expected to come through post-June 1st - under no circumstances will we not have enough energy assessors."

The high cost of Hips is also a gross exaggeration according to Mr Broadhead with alarmists quoting £1,000 for each Hip but the true price will be closer to £300.

The government''s publicity campaign for Hips has only just begun with eight weeks before the initiative''s roll-out. Some 45 per cent of Brits are estimated to have no idea regarding their introduction.
