HIPs partially rolled out from today

Home Information Packs (HIPs) will bring much needed change and transparency to the property market, according to industry experts.

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP) said today that the new packs, due to be introduced on June 1st, are not complicated but allow property buyers to buy without being blind to defects.

HIPs have been introduced in Cambridge today in an early roll-out designed to sort out teething problems before the nationwide implementation goes ahead.

Mike Ockenden, director general of AHIPP, said: "We think HIPs might have a dampening affect on the property market.

"We think agents will take the opportunity to try and canvas potential sellers to list their properties before June."

AHIPP wants to see Home Condition Reports become a mandatory part of the packs. They are objective reports on the condition of the property such as its age, energy efficiency record and its character.
