Home improvements ''a decider in buying a property''

Published: 11/04/2007

Home improvements

Brits prefer greener homes and one way of doing this is to self-build so you can choose exactly the green credentials you want your property to have.

A new report by Nationwide Building Society shows that given the choice between two similarly sized and located properties, 82 per cent of British home seekers would choose the house with green features like solar panels or a wind turbine.

They seem to prefer these sorts of energy efficient home improvements to other highly sought-after feature like period detailing or walk-in wardrobes.

DIY plays a big part in swaying home buyers but you should be careful that your home improvements are done to a top standard because dodgy DIY is a massive turn-off.

Some 91 per cent of those polled said their decision regarding a property would be negatively affected by shoddy building work.
