Home improvements in jeopardy by new tax system

A new government proposal may see home improvement enthusiasts issued with higher tax bills after carrying out work on their homes.
Rather than the current system where UK houses are valued upon their sale, the proposed new plan would see all properties revalued every year.
Therefore changes made to homes including adding a new bedroom or double glazing would incur additional charges through higher council tax bills.
Large changes made by home owners which have required planning permission from local councils will be logged into a central computer while smaller changes will be viewed by inspectors who will knock on doors and ask compulsory questions.
Critics have said that this is just another stealth tax designed to exploit the property boom and will costs the taxpayer millions because there are around 21 million properties in the UK.
