Home improvements up house value in 2007

Adding value to your home is easy with the help of DIY, according to one expert.
Alison Yaldren from DIY superstore B&Q has said that the main priorities for homeowners should be to check that essential works have been completed.
She advises replacing rotting windows, treating rising damp, insulating the loft and replacing electrics.
Creating a neutrally decorated interior with a tidy garden is also beneficial to the value of homes and can be undertaken with ease according to Ms Yaldren.
She said: "In terms of improving the value of their home, we advise our customers that they can maximise their homes'' potential value by following three rules: hold value through essential maintenance works, add value through clever improvements and thus, sell their home within the first eight seconds."
She gave some examples of adding value through clever improvements which include carrying out some energy saving improvements like replacing a boiler with an energy efficient boiler or installing draft proofing.
