Home makeovers top New Year resolutions

Home makeovers are set to be all the rage in 2007 with home improvements topping a list of people''s New Year''s resolutions.

Research by propertyfinder.com, a property portal, has found that re-decoration is the most popular must-do around the home, followed by making improvements in energy efficiency and giving the garden a makeover.

Warren Bright, chief executive officer at propertyfinder.com, said: "After the Christmas lull, the property market kicks off in January 19 per cent of those surveyed said they planned to sell their home in 2007."

According to Mr Bright freshening up the house and garden can maximise your chances of making a quick sale. He said that a fresh coat of paint can do wonders in helping to appeal to buyers, and is obviously the most economical way to make over your home.

He added that the winter is a good time to lay a new patio or do some landscaping ahead of the spring, because that is when the housing market is at its busiest.
