Home renovations 'worth £400 a year'

Home renovations and DIY improvements can save £400 in energy costs every year, green gadget shop Nigel's Eco store has stated.

Founder Nigel Berman said 25 per cent of emissions come from the home so it was an important area for people to concentrate on.

He added: "It's something that we need to do for the planet, but we're also doing it for ourselves. You can reduce your bills if you take energy saving measures."

Mr Berman said this was the case because although many devices were more expensive initially, they helped save on bills, giving the example of energy-saving lightbulbs which cost £15 each but save £40 in electricity costs over their lifetimes.

Industry experts estimate that £500 spent on the right kind of renovations can increase the value of a home by £5,000, the Green Building Press reported last week.
