Homeowners given accident warning

The festive season may now be upon us, but homeowners have been warned of the problems that can be caused by injuries at home.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents has said that around 2.7 million people have to go to accident and emergency departments every year.
However, because such accidents happen "behind closed doors", many remain unaware of the dangers of everyday objects and seemingly innocuous accidents.
"People are often very unaware of issues of home injury prevention and it's important that we do all we can to raise awareness of home safety issues," said ROSPA spokesperson Jo Stagg.
"We know young children and older people are most prone to accidents in the home and particularly those that are socially disadvantaged. There have been links between social depravation and home accidents. We know that children account for around a million hospital visits each year because of home accidents.
"Slips, trips and falls are the most common type of accident in any setting and they do account for a significant number of home accidents. Falls account for more than half of accidents and injuries in the home and 1500 people over the age of 75 die as a result of a fall every year," Ms Stagg.
