Householders going green

A new survey has shown that Britons are keen to go green with large-scale spending on home improvements to make their homes more eco-friendly.
The Co-operative Bank has said its study into the trend has found moves such as fitting insulation and double glazing are popular measures already taken by many people.
However, the bank found, many less conventional measures are being added by some homeowners, with seven per cent planning to add solar panels and 11 per cent looking to introduce rainwater filters.
Those considering the self build option may look to incorporate such measures in their homes at the construction stage, giving them greener homes which may be popular with eco-conscious buyers if and when they are sold on.
Co-operative Bank head of mortgages John Barker said: "This research clearly shows that people are really starting to sit up and take notice of green issues in relation to their homes."
Mortgage broker Hamptons International has predicted that buyers of new-build property are likely to give more attention to home energy efficiency issues in future, findaproperty.com reports.
