Installing a home security system

Installing a home security system

Professionally installed security systems may offer more "peace of mind and protection" than DIY systems, according to one home improvement expert.

Duncan Bland, the marketing director of DIY firm Everest, says that home security systems are often very complicated and if the installer is not sure as to how to fit them then the system will not provide adequate protection to the property.

He said if they are "badly fitted" then they "can end up being a false economy" and that home owners should not attempt to install a DIY system unless they have the requisite electrical knowledge and practical skill.

"Millions of pounds are spent each year on burglar alarm systems, but homeowners need to be aware that there is a huge difference in quality and reliability between the different models available," added Mr Bland.

Type A alarm systems alert local police to respond to your property when activated while Type B systems will not receive a police response and rely on key holders only.
