It's easier than ever to give your home an extension

New planning laws in the UK unveiled in a government White Paper have made it easier for home owners to add extensions and loft conversions to their homes.
However, despite this loosening of planning permission laws, it is unlikely that applications for home extensions will rise rapidly, according to experts.
John Slaughter, from the Home Builders Federation, says that a high volume of planning permission applications were already being made and this is why the legislation has been relaxed; to ease administration.
"The premise of the White Paper is that applications have increased enormously anyway for minor extensions and projects of that kind," he said.
"They're essentially proposing relaxation of the rules to ease the burden on the planning system, because the level of demand is already so high."
According to the government's figures, applications for household extensions have doubled over the last 12 years to roughly 330,000 per year.
