Ivy is 'hated by house buyers'

Walls covered in ivy can knock thousands of pounds off the value of your property, according to a new survey.
Website uktvgardens.co.uk has found that ivy is the biggest turn-off for house buyers and in second place comes the super-quick growing Leylandii which two-thirds of Brits said they would be worried about because it may affect brickwork.
"First impressions count for everything when selling a house and the state of your garden and what it contains can make or break a deal," said Simon Wombwell, the site's resident homes and gardens expert.
"Homes with unpopular plants such as Leylandii can be unpopular with buyers so are harder to sell and may well result in price reductions."
He said he had heard of thousands of pounds being chopped off some properties with big Leylandii because after all, it's usually the garden that people see first.
Other hated garden turn-offs include water features, privet hedges, bamboo and of course, extravagant Christmas decorations.
