Kitchens and bathrooms 'best way to add value'

Renovating or refitting a kitchen or bathroom is one of the best ways of adding value to a home, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has said.
The FMB has said that the way in which properties are advertised by estate agents can often focus solely on such rooms because of their importance to the property, and added that more Britons are now thinking of improving rather than moving.
Environmentally friendly alterations have also become more popular, as is the desire for greener constructions, the federation added.
"People recognise that [the kitchen and bathroom] are where the big expenditures are," commented Robin Hood-Leeder, director of membership services at the FMB.
"Unless you're extending your home, the big money goes in to the bathroom and the kitchen. Beyond that, there's extensions and conservatories; extra habitable space.
"And there is also no question that people are either incorporating more energy methods or they have a focus on improving something specific such as solar panels," Mr Hood-Leeder concluded.
