Land sale 'will benefit community'

The owners of Hillhead Sports Club have claimed plans to build 44 flats on land owned by the club would benefit the local community.
Barratt will build the homes after buying the land in Hughendon Road, Hyndland, the Evening Times reports.
Cash generated by the £4 million sale will be used to create an all-weather hockey pitch and an overhauled clubhouse and stand.
Club chairman Ron Meikle told the paper: "The sports grounds left in trust to the club will survive, the purpose of the land will continue as envisaged and the war memorials will continue to command a prime position in the reconstructed clubhouse.
"I am very pleased Hillhead Sports Club has had its long-term future assured following approval by Glasgow City Council of its plans."
