Land scam firms shut down

The High Court has ensured that three companies implicated in an investment land scam have been wound up, it has been revealed.
The three companies Townfield Land Investments, Southwold Site Management and Libertas Land were implicated in the selling of land to the public for as much as 50 times their real value.
The internet-based scam was based on land that is part of the Heritage Coast and hence not available for development, the court found.
An investigation by Companies Investigation Branch (CIB) of the Insolvency Service ultimately led to the firms being wound up, with further evidence showing that the land available was susceptible to shrinking and swelling.
Meanwhile, a glazer in Wigan has been jailed for almost two years after he conned over £9,000 from customers by promising goods that he never delivered, including laminate flooring, as well as taking cash upfront after promising discounts on windows and doors.
