Land supply is 'immediate priority' for new housing chief

New Housing Corporation chief executive Steve Douglas has said that increasing the supply of land available for construction in the UK is one of his main priorities.

Mr Douglas takes over at the organisation on July 2nd, and affirmed that building targets could only be met if there was more land available over the next few years.

The corporation's own goal of increasing this year's housing supply by around 5,000 will in itself be a great challenge, Inside Housing has suggested, citing the Housing Corporations own forthcoming business plan.

"The challenge will be gearing up for growth and what I mean by that is land supply. We have identified that we have got the capacity but we need the land coming through. We need a 25 to 30 per cent increase in supply coming through by the end of the spending period," Mr Douglas commented, according to Inside Housing.

The Housing Corporation is to merge with English Partnerships in order to form the new Communities England organisation, it was revealed earlier this year.
