Lib Dems propose green loans

The Liberal Democrats are planning their manifesto around energy mortgages which would give homeowners special loans to make green home improvements.
Sir Menzies Campbell, the leader of the party, wants to encourage the cutting of household carbon emissions so DIY projects like insulation, wind turbines and solar panels are all good steps in reducing the energy consumption of UK homes.
He said: "People are paying high fuel bills because their homes too easily lose energy.
"Our proposals will help people save the environment and cut bills."
Then when paying fuel bills, people who have used the special loans will makes repayments alongside paying for energy. This will hopefully provide sustainable and long-term cuts to people''s fuel bills as well as being a good move for the environment.
Tips for conserving household energy include turning down the thermostat by a few degrees, closing curtains at dusk, never leaving appliances on standby and fixing dripping taps.
