Loft conversions add £15,000 to home value

A loft conversion is a particularly lucrative home renovation which can add 15 per cent to the value of your home, according to one property expert.

Richard Diment, from the Federation of Master Builders, says that the majority of people use their conversions as an extra bedroom with an en suite bathroom and this is a useful space, which can add thousands to the asking price of your home.

If you are wondering whether your home is suitable for such a renovation then Mr Diment has some pertinent advice.

"The easiest way to tell is that if you can stand up in your loft then yes it can be converted, as long as it is over 2.3 metres," he said.

A recent survey by Redrow Homes shows that given the choice, Brits plump for three-storey homes over two-storey homes because an extra floor can provide a heightened sense of privacy.
