Loft conversions one of the "easiest ways" ways to create space

Home improvers looking to increase the size of their property should consider a loft conversion, according to one expert.

Adding a loft conversion is an easy way to create space for homeowners that need to upsize but cannot move during the current property slump, said Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC).

"Any extra rooms you can add, add value to your house and there is no doubt about that. Rooms in the roof are one of the easiest ways to go, providing you get things right," he explained.

Loft conversions are becoming more popular in the current economic climate, particularly homeowners who are adversely affected by the credit crunch.

Existing owners are finding it easier to improve rather than move, he said.

Recent research by Alliance & Leicester Personal Loans found that around 20 per cent of Brits would consider converting their loft.
