London unveils Europe''s biggest planning application

As work surrounding Britain''s 2012 Olympic Games gathers steam, London has unveiled one of the biggest planning applications ever submitted in Europe.
The 15 volume, 10,000 page planning document includes plans for all areas of the upcoming Olympic Park, including leisure space, waterways, highways and the sporting venues themselves.
Since the blueprint was launched in 2005, a number of planning changes have been made to ensure that the park has a long-lasting positive impact for local communities in east London.
The planning process has now taken into account the need for enhanced housing, schools and facilities in the area.
Sebastian Coe, chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee, said: "London 2012 will be a prime example of sport acting as a catalyst for regeneration and the planning application we are submitting today clearly shows the transformational powers of the Games.
"This is one of the biggest and most complex planning applications ever prepared in this country and is another key milestone for us on the road to 2012."
Around 2.5 kilometres of land will be taken up once the planning document''s contents are fully realised.
