Look east for self build, says Buildstore

New figures released by Buildstore indicate that the East of England is the best part of the country in which to look for plots of land for self build projects.

The firm revealed that the top county in its Plotsearch database, which helps subscribers discover the ideal piece of land to build on, is Cambridgeshire with 265 available plots.

Norfolk is second with 216 and Essex third with 172.

However, aspiring self-builders elsewhere can also find plenty of opportunities, according to the site, with the list of the top ten counties by number of available plots literally stretching from one end of the country to the other, as it includes Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands.

The company has suggested that the money saved on self build can help ensure its value does not dip below its original cost.

Other homes may face such a negative equity threat as the latest Nationwide House Price Index revealed a drop of 0.5 per cent in house prices in February, following on from January's 0.3 per cent dip.
